Alleys Collection

Alleys Heavy Haulage and General Haulage of Studley, Warwickshire, was started some 50 years or more ago by the founder and owner Maurice Alley.

Fortunately, the Allely family retained ownership of some of the early vehicles used those days. Five of those vehicles have now been fully restored and are road legal once again.

The latest addition to the vintage collection is the Atkinson Borderer powered by a Cummins 220 unit. This tractor unit had been in the shed at the family's farm for some 18 years. It is a worthy partner to the rest of the vintage collection, very well restored.

Here you see the entire vintage collection at a recent event at the family farm in Studley. The event was for the family and friends and members of the North Worcestershire Vintage Tractor and Engine Club.
The Atkinson in front and behind from left to right is the Austin K2 Dropside; Thorneycroft Sturdy; Seddon MK5 and a Bedford Livestock unit.

Vintage and Classic Commercial Show at Malvern

Saturday 17th March, some of us re-assembled at the Three Counties Show Ground for a one day Vintage and Classic Commercial Show.

We arrived on the Friday afternoon to set up and meet Maurice Allely's newly restored 'Sturdy' diesel Thornycroft from 1950. photo Matt Bisp

It was vehicles like this that Maurice Allely first set up Allelys Haulage, cattle and agricultural transport mainly in those days. photo Matt Bisp

Since those early days, the family has grown up and developed the business to today's heavy haulage market. See below.

A fine example of a Leyland Steer, 1959.

Circa 1950's Guy. A lovely example indeed.

Vic Haines from Evesham showing off his vintage and classic stock.

These have always been one of my favourites. A AEC Matator. Many are still employed in the timber business.
A little uncertain about this Morris Commercial. Probably 1949 and very similar to that used by the Post Office Telephone engineers vehicle.

This is a well restored example of an Albion Chieftain, 1955

Now these I do like. Ex US Army 2nd World War stock. A Ward le France unit now used as a wrecker.
During set up I spotted these early Scammel units. Used largely for railway purposes and local deliveries from stations.

Classic Commercial Show

Saturday 26th March 2011, we visited the Classic Commercial Show, held at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern in Worcestershire. This is the second year this event has been held on this site and there were in excess of 100 exhibits, trade and catering. Furthermore an auction was conducted by H J Pughs. It was a cold grey day but we had a good time. We were allowed a small club display for the North Worcestershire Vintage Tractor and Engine Club. This was to promote two events, the Evesham Spring Gathering and the Annual Vintage Gathering at Astwood Bank 11th & 12th June. The latter event is organised by the NWVTEC.

1961 Foden S20 owned by my friend Mr Ashley Godsall of Herefordshire

1956 Ford Thames ET6 Owned by P. Kennard, Worcestershire. If you look carefully, the badge on the bonnet just says Thames. Earlier models would have had 'Fordson' also stamped on the badge.
A pair of Bristols, 1955 and 1957, owned by R. Masters of Worcestershire.

1952 Fordson Thames ET6 owned by P. Owen of Worcestershire.

Vintage Commercial Show, Malvern

On Saturday 27th March the Vintage Commercial show was held at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern, Worcestershire.
Only a one day show, previously held at Donnington, it was a great success, coupled with an H.J. Pugh auction of vintage commercials and memorabilia, made for a lovely day out.
Although wet to start off with, it brightened up and continued with viewing some exhibits placed outside.
Next year, I understand it will be held at Malvern again, but scheduled for two days.
Anybody that is interested in vintage commercials, spare and accessories, next year you must visit.
