A Summer weekend

The weekend of 23rd and 24th July 2011, Matt Bisp and I had a long weekend down at Lyme Regis in Dorset, and fortunately the weather had started to improve.

We arrived at out caravan site on Thursday 21st and immediately put on our swimming costumes and went in the heated pool. Fantastic to go swimming again.

We found out by accident that on Saturday 23rd was the start of Lyme Regis Lifeboat week, in which all sorts of fund raising activities are organised to provide much needed funds into the RNLI. Saturday 23rd was also the day for the 12 noon arrival of the RAF's Red Arrows display team, and what an emotional display it was.

I had never been to Lyme Regis before and found it a lovely place and would certainly like to return.

Ah, breakfast time, this is where I had a fully English breakfast, tea and toast sitting outside looking at the harbour and its activities.

The Weymouth Lifeboat also visited and demonstrated how to return a stricken trawler to the safety of the harbour.

Just a 'snap shot' of the thousands of visitors descending upon the resort in readiness for the impending visit from the Red Arrows.

The use of a tractor is not only for agricultural use, but in industry and fisheries and shore purposes. As you can see from this video clip, all these tractors are of vintage or classic stock, but still doing a little job of work. These tractors would have been manufactured within our shores.

Bromyard Gala 2011

The 44th Annual Bromyard Gala was held in glorious warm sunshine all weekend of 2nd & 3rd July on the Birchyfields site just outside Bromyard.

One of the features of this event is that is coincides with the town's carnival, and a select number of exhibits are invited to join the carnival and make its way through the streets.

Bromyard, a hill side town in the Royal Forest of Dean, Herefordshire, is a wonderful mixture and blend of black and white half timbered properties, with Georgian and Victorian architecture. The procession is assembled on the disused railway bed prior to its run round this historic town.

It was a typical colourful English rural scene. Bunting festooned the main streets and a vast number of townsfolk and visitors lined the route to welcome the parade.

Only in Britain can we do this best!

As Chairman of the North Worcestershire Vintage Tractor and Engine Club, we were invited to attend the event and put on a club display. The Ford 2000 belongs to me, whilst the Wheelhorse and Ford 1200 belong to Mr Matthew Bisp of Rubery.

What a fine pair of Bristols! These lorry's are very rare indeed and have been lovingly restored to their present condition.

Are now I have my early railway days hat on. Many of these Scammels were to be scene round the towns and cities during the steam halcyon days.

So just when you thought International made tractors, you were wrong, This is an early American truck.

In the working section, Paul Davis attended with Miles Banks with this new addition to the S.E. Davis collection of Caterpillar's.

Pauline Snape of Sambourne exhibited this David Brown 950.

Joe Darby of Hopwood, Birmingham brought along this wonderful example of a Deutz tractor.
